Sweet New KSG Golf Shirts Driving Visibility

Two days this week I wore my sweet new KSG golf shirts. And someone even approached me about it.

I met Sean Kimiagar for coffee on Thursday morning.

I got there early, wearing a black KSG golf shirt.

Seeing the shirt, a lady approached me and asked if my last name was Krimmel.

It turns out, she taught my nephew this school year.

I explained that he’s my brother’s son, but we all live here in the same neighborhood, so we run in similar circles.

While that particular interaction had nothing to do with KSG, it’s fun to wear the new shirts and have a one-off conversation here or there that I wouldn’t otherwise have.

It’s a reflection of one of my go-to pieces of advice when I’m on stage or on a podcast.

It’s not enough to know what you know.

Other people have to know that you know what you know.

And that last bit, the other people knowing…that’s tough for a lot of us.

It requires broadcasting your story, your abilities, in a way that can feel uncomfortable and self-promotional.

It is self-promotional, of course. But you can do it in a way that’s not off-putting for whoever you’re engaging.

The golf shirts are one very small way of me building visibility for KSG, and by extension the things I do that make a difference for the executive teams I advise and the energy professionals I teach.

By default, we each have too little visibility.

The quality and scope of our work vastly outweighs the awareness the wider world has of what we do.

While wearing a golf shirt is far from a silver bullet here, it’s one small but worthwhile tool I use to drive visibility.

Think about this for your own career development.

What low stakes, simple action could you take that shines at least a small light on you and what you do?

Building even a little momentum in that direction can, in time, unlock incredible opportunity that otherwise would have been unavailable.

Best of luck out there.
