Poll: Which Energy Finance Skill Matters Most?

I want your perspective here. Which energy finance skill matters most to your role right now?

And if you’re not in a role with much financial exposure, imagine a future role you’re aspiring to.

I’ve had countless conversations with midcareer energy professionals and rising executives about how to thrive in their careers.

One table stakes element is financial acumen.

No, you don’t need to become a CFO or a financial analyst.

But you’ll quickly get to a point where a degree of financial literacy is necessary to participate in high-consequence strategic decision-making.

Based on how I built my own financial literacy, and what I’m hearing from the private conversations I’m having, I’ve created four skill buckets:

▪️ Reading filings & earnings
▪️ Turning data into decisions
▪️ Linking spend to strategy
▪️ Speaking finance fluently

These skills are manifestations of different competencies:

▪️ Reading filings & earnings ➜ Technical literacy
▪️ Turning data into decisions ➜ Analytical synthesis
▪️ Linking spend to strategy ➜ Strategic reasoning
▪️ Speaking finance fluently ➜ Effective communication

I’m building my next cohort-based program, which I call Energy Finance Mastery.

It’ll be a 12-week virtual engagement where we’ll build executive-level finance fluency, the kind of fluency we need to engage our most senior stakeholders with confidence.

The poll results here will help me decide what to emphasize as the first cohort and I work through the material together.

If you want more information about Energy Finance Mastery, drop your email address 👉 here.

I’ll send out my first note about the program shortly.

And as always, if you have anything you want to share privately, send me an email or DM. I’m happy to connect that way.
