How I Used Claude to Build an Oil and Gas Market Monitoring Tool

I had Claude build an oil & gas market monitoring tool for executives and sales folks. And I’m about to share it in the Energy Boardroom.

The image below is Claude’s very first attempt at building an oil & gas market monitoring tool based on just my initial prompt.

I wanted to build a tool that energy executives and Sales folks can use to remain on top of oil & gas markets in a low-touch, high-value way.

You’ll see the tool is broken down into segments:

➜ Benchmark Prices & Refining Margin
➜ Inventories & Storage
➜ Drilling Activity
➜ Sector Equities

The four pieces together give us a summary view of the state of the market.

I also asked Claude to include some historical comparisons for context, so we know where to steer our attention for further investigation.

Some of the elements in the tool are blank. Not a surprise for a first pass proof of concept.

I’ll absolutely continue to iterate on this, to get it to a more useful state.

One of the improvements I’m considering is having Claude give me three to five bullets at the top of the monitor about what market elements it thinks I should be paying the most attention to.

I’m going to share this tool, along with my Claude prompt, in the Energy Boardroom, both as a show-and-tell exercise, but also to get feedback from the group about how to steer this thing.

(The Energy Boardroom is the community I run that’s open to people who have been through one of my cohort-based programs.

Right now Oil & Gas Market Mastery is the only program that exists. But I’m putting together a curriculum for a new program I’m calling Energy Finance Mastery. I’ll share more in the next few weeks.)

My hypothesis here is that with increasingly capable AI tools and a surplus of high-value market data available publicly, we should be near a point where we can get powerful market summaries like this with the snap of a finger.

Should be a fun session with the Energy Boardroom crew.
